A very fine old french 4/4 violin, stamped and labeled F.Breton brevete de S M G Me la Duchesse d’ Angouleme a Mirecourt 1829? Breton. The violin has an excellent straight high grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of softly flamed maple with matched sides and scroll. The purfling is professionally executed and the edges are masterfully done. The original varnish of golden amber color remains in good condition. The whole length of the violin is 586 mm and the back 355 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 164 mm; middle bouts: 111 mm; lower bouts: 205 mm.
