What we do
Each instrument tells a unique story, reflecting the craftsmanship and artistic expression of its era and school. At DaGamba, we seek to share the story of each of our instruments through thoughtful appraisals, restorations, and auctions.
Alexander Viltman
Founder and owner of DaGamba GmbH. His professional history encompasses music performance and instrument restoration.
He completed studies in the violin at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He played first violin with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra Musica Viva, Moscow Soloists, Philharmonic of Nations (Philharmonie der Nationen), and Klassische Philharmonie Bonn. Additionally, he has made radio, television, festival, and public appearances as a soloist across the world.
In 2003, Alexander began working with old stringed instruments, in particular focusing on restoration, valuation, and online sales. He attended workshops and exhibitions in Cremona, Shanghai, London, New York, and Paris, and worked with online auctioneers Tarisio, Sotheby’s, Gardiner Houlgate, Bromptons, Amati, Vichy, Bonhams, Skinner, Chiswick, Babuino, Millon, Dorotheum, and many others.
In 2006, Alexander used his expertise to create DaGamba GmbH. DaGamba GmbH is an internet-based house dedicated to providing fine-stringed instruments, bows, and accessories in an accessible way for players, collectors, teachers, luthiers, and members of the trade.
