How to take photos

For an accurate evaluation, the most important views are:

  • Instruments: Full “straight-on” views of the front, back, and the scroll.
  • Bows: Clear shots of the frog and the tip.
  • Optional details: Feel free to include close-ups of the f-holes, label, ribs, specific carvings and repairs. Add photos of certificates and valuations if present.

1. Setting up your shot

  • Stabilize the instrument: To keep it perfectly vertical, you can balance it carefully on a sturdy object like a glass vase with a wide mouth. If you have someone available to assist, they can hold the instrument at the top of the neck by the scroll while it rests on a secure base.
  • Lighting & background: Use soft, natural light and a simple, plain background such as a white sheet, white wall or solid colored table cloth. Disable your flash to prevent glare and ensure the varnish colors appear accurately.
  • Framing: Stand approximately 100-120cm and use your zoom to fill the frame with the instrument. This helps maintain the correct proportions and prevents lens distortion

2. Submission

Once your photos are ready, archive them in .zip or .rar format and submit them through the DaGamba valuation contact form for review.

Drop your photo archive (.zip or .rar) here or click here to upload. You can upload 1 file. Up to 24 MB.
